Regent Street Condominiums

Regent Street Condominiums

Cambridge, MA

The Regent Street Condominiums replace an existing auto body repair shop in Cambridge’s Porter Square neighborhood. The project was planned as two buildings facing each other across a central landscaped court. Each building has four townhouse residences constructed over garage parking below grade. The design received zoning approval with the full support of the Neighborhood Committee and abutters.

The design responds to adjacent industrial building types and to the scale and siting of detached residences typical of the neighborhood. Restrained offsets and bays, and the contrasting use of narrow clapboard and wide shiplapped siding define the individual townhouses. Roof monitors and projecting cornices are covered with lead coated copper. Access to the underground garage is screened by overhead trellises that support a canopy of climbing vines, and the landscaping of the site has been carefully planned to enhance the existing neighborhood.
